Before beginning the Instructor training process, candidates must have a current provider course card for their chosen discipline, and must align with an American Heart Association Training Center that is accepting new Instructors in their chosen discipline.
American Heart Association Instructor training consists of two stages:
- The Instructor candidate takes the self-directed online Instructor Essentials portion in his or her chosen discipline.
- The Instructor candidate takes the hands-on session conducted by training center faculty.
- Within 6 months of taking the Instructor course an instructor candidate must be observed, by Faculty of the TC they will be aligning with, during the teaching of a BLS Course. The TC monitoring the course will be the one issuing the Instructor card.
Upon successful completion of all steps, candidates receive an Instructor card, valid for two years.
The BLS Instructor course prepares you for teaching all BLS courses in the AHA course list. This would include Heartsaver courses and First Aid.
The class is scheduled for 9 hours which includes a break for lunch.
The cost of the Instructor Course is $275.00 (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, AMEX) which includes the Instructor Manual and the AHA Instructor Esssentials online course. The instructor manual is now available in either E format or as a paper book. Select which you want at the time of registration. Once issued, the E Book cannot be refunded. The paper manual can be picked up prior to the classroom course or be picked up at the class.
Cancellation for this course must be done no less than 1 week prior to the course in order to obtain a refund or in order to have the fee applied to a different date and time. E products such as the E Instructor Manual or the E Instructor Essentials course cannot be refunded.
All AHA Instructors must affiliate with an AHA Training Center and know whom they will be accepted by prior to this instructor class.. Do not assume that you are affiliating with HealthSav by taking the course here. You can choose which training center you want to affiliate with but must assure they will take you on. If an instructor candidate wants to affiliate with HealthSav that must be discussed before the course as availability for additional instructors in a TC can vary from time to time.
After completing the Instructor Course an instructor candidate must teach a BLS course within 6 months with appropriate overview being given by the training center they will be affiliating with and observed by a Training Center Faculty or Regional Faculty. Upon completion of their course review the instructor candidate will be issued their instructor card by theTraining Center they will be affiliating with.
